Vintage Xmas Frenzy

Hi all, Merry Merry, and all that.
Firstly - let me tell you of an amazing website I found earlier - and if you have kids, you'll love this. It is http://www.noradsanta.org/en/home.htm
It tracks Santa around the world, in real time, and by clicking on the red arrows on the 'map', you'll see video of where he's just been, in the past few hours. It's fantastic !
Actually, I said it was for kids - it's not really, because I love it too. Unless... oh.
I am hoping you'll see this in time, as in just a few hours time, the bearded wonder's job is nearly all done.
.
On to the matter in hand, and just to make your Xmas even better / worse / more average (delete whichever is the more sober), I have to inform you that by Xmas morning here, 25th December, there will be 10 Hours (yes, that's TEN WHOLE HOURS) of 'Vintage Christmasses Past' on our Pod, courtesy of The Album Zone.
.
Alongside all our current Album Zone Programmes, will be the following :
.
AZ Xmas 1999 - Johnny Reece and James Barclay, 1 hour.
AZ New Years Day 2000 - Johnny Reece and James Barclay, 1 hour.
AZ Xmas 2002 - Johnny Reece and Gil Legine - 1 hour.
AZ Xmas 2003 - Johnny and Gil's 'Hideous Xmas Creation', 3hours, in 3 x 1 hour parts.
AZ Xmas 2004 - Johnny Reece, James Barclay, Richard Bismarck, 2 hours, in 2 x 1 hour parts.
AZ Xmas 2004 - George Barclay and Arthur Reece (yes, The Grandads get a chance to go on air and play their favourite songs from the War Years. We'll never live it down). 1 Hour.
AZ Xmas 2004 - The Brigadier's Xmas Special (just as bad as the above). 1 Hour.
And finally - a few seldom heard 'Album Zone Out-takes (10 minutes approx).
.
You'll find our Pod at : http://www.4shared.com/dir/391612/be81ca22/sharing.html
.
That should keep you going. We'll leave the Vintage on, until around New Year.
You have been warned !
.
Merry Xmas everybody.

Hope it's a Merry one...

Greetings and Yuletide salutations...
Twas the last weekend before Xmas, and all that. Wherever you are, whoever you are, and wherever you'll be, I hope it's a happy and peaceful one. Maybe a musical one ?
A couple of our AZ crew were out late last night at a pre-Xmas get together, and I'm happy to say, seem none the worse for wear this morning. But, perhaps that's just a disguise.
.
Musically, AZ kicks off tonight, Saturday, at 9pm, with a rather Punklicious way in to Yuletide, with Zoe. It's 2 hours of Punk, New Wave and Ska, and you'll find it at www.rti.fm, and Sky 0195, if you're just about anywhere in Europe. It's also on our Pod, too.
.
Into Sunday, and it's Johnny Reece at 8pm, same place, same frequencies.
I had to laugh - it's the first time I've heard him give an official 'public warning' before playing a record - the very last track of the show, which he describes as 'quite clearly the worst Xmas song, or should I say, the worst, schmaltzy, cheesy, sickly record of any kind ever heard by anyones ears, that it simply has to be heard, as a warning to humankind'.
Hmm. The Scotsman does promise a host of goodies for the rest of the show, leaving the track in question to the very end.
And you know what ? He's right !
.
Podwise, I think I will upload a couple of vintage programmes from Xmasses and New Years past, for a little extra seasonal flavour.
So do watch out for them appearing, over the next few days.
You'll find our Pod, at :
http://www.4shared.com/dir/391612/be81ca22/sharing.html
.
It just remains for me to say, have a lovely Xmas.

Sundays action...

Oh, I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date...
Not really, but I'm late with the update, and I think you know how it is. All that rushing about pre-Xmas is a familiar tale in the Lloyd household.
I even made some sparklingly fantastic errors initially, in the middle of last night, with the naming and labelling of Pod shows. Luckily, the Gilster spotted it rather promptly, and let us know in time for it to be fixed today. Oh, the chaos !
.
Talking of the Pod, by the time you read this, three brand new shows will be up there, as a special early Xmas present to your ears. Or not, depending on your point of view. Tell us !
Uploaded today, newies from Andy Miles, Gil Legine, and Johnny Reece.
They are at : http://www.4shared.com/dir/391612/be81ca22/sharing.html
.
We were hoping to have newies too from the likes of Pixie and Cupcake, but both of them seem to have gone awol before Xmas. Stolen by elves ?
.
The New Year (hang on, we haven't had Xmas yet !) will bring some more goodies too, we assure you, with not only the promise (well, the 'threat') of new Presenters, but newies too from Rich Phoenix, and a special musical departure or two from the Punklicious Zoe, which we're all looking forward to.
.
Ok, on to tonights Playlist, from the Reecey Soiree...
.

... and the weekend is here ...

Welcome all, to another rambling monologue ! The weekend is nearly upon us once again, so it's time to tell you of weekend AZ Programmes, and such.
It has been a fairly quiet week, gladly so, and no small part of that is due to the fact we have pre-planned, and uploaded already, most AZ Shows to our various outlets, for most of December 2007.
Good thing too, as at this time of year, it can all go a little crazy at a moment's notice.
A slight sinus thing headed Mr Reece's way (again !) but was quashed within 24 hours, so, normal (well, reasonably normal) service was resumed re this weeks Reecey Soiree, as you will hear, on Sunday at 8pm. Oh, and it's www.rti.fm, and Sky 0195, for your information.
Expect to hear the likes of P J Harvey, Speeka, Sufjan Stevens, Ramones, Chet Baker, and a whole bunch more.
Going to miss it ? How dare you ! But you can catch up with it on our Pod, from late Sunday evening.
The day before, Saturday, Gil Legine takes the chair, at 9pm, same frequencies, with the likes of Zappa, Smashing Pumpkins, King Crimson, Rufus Wainwright, and more.
.
Still keeping secrets seems to be the name of the game, as far as news of the 2 possible new AZ Presenters goes. We just want to make sure all is right before we unleash them into your ears, you understand.
.
On a slightly sadder note, amazingly, after our recent rather excellent pet-keeping record, we have to report we lost 'Lolita', one of our new mascots, after just 12 days. We are still not sure what did it. Do baby Goldfish get super-fast life threatening infections ? It seems so.
It was very sudden.
Her partner in crime (well, in the tank, obviously), Guernica, seems to be ok, but we're keeping a close watch, just in case the same illness may still be lurking. Time will tell. Not sure at the moment about whether to get a new friend for her, we'll see.
.
.
Enjoy the Programmes, and don't forget, you can tune in to hear the Album Zone at any time, just by checking out our Pod, by playing, or downloading of you prefer, at :

It's one of those rainy nasty gale force winds days, in London town.
So, I'm staying put in the womb like environs of AZ Towers (oo-er !).
Browsing through the ol' playlist for tonights show (which I really hope you tune into, thank you very much, www.rti.fm or Sky 0195 at 8pm tonight) and am reasonably pleased at the variance of it. Everything from newies from the rather fab Pop Levi, through the hobo ramblings of Tom Waits, to the highly original and wonderfully named Machine Gun Fellatio, checking in briefly with the so called 'female Elvis' Janis Martin, past the brilliantly understated Lambchop, to the strange 70s world of a rather different Sparks.

And much more !

Have a fab Sunday,

Johnny x

Now that's what I call efficiency !

Greetings all,
my, haven't we been busy ?
What with all that sorting out of new mascot arrivals here at AZ Towers, we neglected the paperwork side of things (hey, easy to do !) so we have dotted the i's and crossed the t's, and have the complete AZ Programme Schedules for December 2007, for you below.
Now that's what I call efficiency !
.
This coming weekend, Barry De Foyle is back in the chair (not sure which chair, we'll need to ask him about that) for his Saturday Special, via RTI and Sky, at 21.00 hours. The following evening, Sunday, at 20.00 hours, in his usual spot, it's Johnny Reece.
I will publish playlist details at the end of the weekend.
.
The Pod : Late Sunday evening, Johnny Reece's Show will be uploaded, and we have just uploaded the brand new shows from Richard Bismarck, Zoe Street-Howe, and Andy Miles.
They are there right now - check em' out !
.
Oh, and I really can't say too much about it - no, let me rephrase that, I can't say much about it at all, except to hint that there may be 2 (yes, two !) new AZ Presenters joining us shortly. Hmmm...
.
Ok, here's the December listings, and I'll be back at the weekend. Stay safe !

Time to meet ... Lolita and Guernica

Hello there Zoneheads,
a good weekend to you all.
Lots of goings on at RTI this weekend, with their entire Studio Complex being relocated. Whether this affects the normal AZ output tonight and tomorrow, we just don't know as yet.
If things run to form, Cupcake will be on air, 9pm tonight UK time, via www.rti.fm and Sky 0195, with the Johnny Reece Show in it's usual spot at 8pm tomorrow evening.
However - Cupcake's superb new show is already on the Pod, and I will be uploading Johnny's Show earlier than usual, tomorrow, just in case technical things re the RTI move do affect the output. Hey, it's great to have our own back-up !
.
Meanwhile, got to rush, as I have to aquaint myself and say Hi to the new tiny arrivals here at AZ Towers, Lolita and Guernica.
.
Have a great weekend,
.
Steve

Monday, Monday...

Greetings Zoneheads, and welcome to the week.
It's been a strange one here, for all sorts of reasons, as most of you know. On to all that in a minute or two.
Firstly, let me update you, as I should, with Programme news. Happy to say that the brand new opus from the Punklicious Zoe Street-Howe is currently getting it's debut on the AZ Pod. Do check it out, it's her 2nd Show back at the Zone, after too, too long an absence.
Also nestling up on the Pod, since last night, is the current Johnny Reece Show.
To catch both of those, and a host of other AZ Programmes from our little squad, just go to our Pod URL at the bottom of this update, and away you go...
.
It's customary (hey, it's AZ law !) to bring you the Johnny Reece playlist from the weekend, so here goes :
.

.
Donald Fagen - New Frontier
Brian Eno - Baby's On Fire
Ray Davies - One More Time
The Beatles - I'm Down
Marjorie Fair - Stare

.
....................................
.
Uploading again today, but this time, to our MySpace page. We have been updating the Photo Galleries there, so do take a peak !
.
Finally, thanks to all those who wrote in, regarding the loss of our well known and much loved resident AZ Mascot. He's been around for over 5 years - yes, Blubber The Wonder Goldfish. He'll be missed.
I was chatting to Johnny last night about it here, and he said something which brought a wry smile, and made me laugh out loud when I thought about it, when he said "you do realise that in the last 2 days, Blubber has had more mail than all of the AZ Presenters put together".
How great is that ? I guess that's the way it should be. So, a huge thanks for your comments, your Blog comments, your emails, your texts, and your e-cards.
Sometimes, it's not just all about the Presenters and Radio and Music, and we're glad of that.
Thanks to you all.
.
I'll be back at the end of the week, with Weekend Programming news.
Meanwhile, do keep an eye on the Album Zone MySpace page, as we are rummaging for photographs, and as soon as we find any more, they are scanned, uploaded, and added !
Have a great week.

Weekend action !

Greetings Zoneheads,
just a quick note of the sounds which could be launched into your earlobes this weekend, if you let them, via us all here at AZ Towers.
Tonight, Saturday, 21.00 hours (UK time) via www.rti.fm and also Sky 0195, Andy Miles will take you on a Rock and Blues trip, for a couple of hours, as is his want.
Tomorrow, Sunday, same frequencies, but slightly earlier at 20.00 UK, Johnny Reece is back in the chair for more choice Album cuts, and, no doubt, some rather strange stories too (hey, we've noticed that).
Monday to Wednesday inclusive we're back again, this time via Radio Seagull (www.radioseagull.com) at 18.00 hours, with Johnny Reece, Gil Legine, and Cupcake, respectively. These 3 Programmes are also repeated on Seagull later in the week, for those in different timezones. It's 02.00 AM (UK) on Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
This does mean we are on every single day of the week. There's no escape !
.
Do check out our Pod too, which contains a whole host of brand new and recent Programmes from our squad. This will be added to, late Sunday evening, with the newies from both Johnny Reece, and the first airing of the brand new opus from Zoe Street-Howe . Punklicious !
.
Very encouraging to have more new contacts recently from around the world, from people who have just discovered us. This does, naturally, bring up the point of something we used to do regularly, which is to also air 'Vintage' Programmes from AZ history, giving people a rare chance to hear AZ Shows from years gone by. So, it's something we are considering once again.
.
A little bit of a spring clean and sort out too will be cccuring, on our MySpace page.
.
Have a great weekend, and thanks, as ever, for your support.

Punklicious and Two Of A Kind

Greetings, Zoneheads - wrapped up warm ?
We are, here. Winter dawns, quite suddenly if truth be told, but do we care ?
Not really - we are snuggled up, thank you very much, in the womb of our very warm and rather fabulous new-look Studio (yes, 'The Den' ) here at AZ Towers.
.
With all the work going on here recently, we will be taking a little time off from AZ duties this weekend... we deserve it !
But firstly, news to tell you of this weekends AZ Shows, springing out around the world, directly into your ears, with your permission, of course.
.
Saturday night sees the long awaited return of the Punklicious Zoe to AZ duties, and she will be punkin' and a-ska-ing' (such a word ?) around the world for you on Saturday evening, 21.00 hours UK time, via www.rti.fm, and also on Sky Satellite into millions of homes across Europe and beyond, via Channel 0195.
Be there !
You'll hear from the likes of The Waitresses, The Specials, Tommy McCook, Joy Division, The Slits, and many more...
Can't wait ? Well, it's on our Pod, right now...
.
Sunday night, and it's the Scotsman's turn, as Johnny Reece takes to the airwaves. 20.00 hours it will be (UK time) via www.rti.fm, and Sky 0195, Sunday, for what he is rather mysteriously calling 'Two Of A Kind'.
Ah, a themed Show once again, although what he means, we just don't know - yes, he's not telling us. Typical ! Tune in and find out what on earth he's on about, will you ?
.
In the meantime, we're having a quiet Friday here at AZ Towers, luxuriating in some rather good music, and some rather fine wine.
Have a great weekend everyone, and thanks, as ever, for your support.
