PROFILE : Nick Saloman
NICK SALOMAN
For those of you leaning towards Psychedelia as a way of life, you will already be aware of the one and only Nick Saloman. Leader of the marvellous band The Bevis Frond, Nick first crossed paths with the 'Zoners' when meeting Johnny Reece at a pop quiz, and within weeks ended up presenting some Satellite Radio Shows for RNI Norway back in 1992, for a year or so. Another chance meeting years later between Nick and Reecey at a gig in London in late 2000 led to Nick being immediately enrolled (captured ?) once again in the school for Zoneheads. At a recent interrogation, we managed to extract the following information :His first 'proper' gig attended was in 1963, when he persuaded his Mum to take him along to the Hammersmith Odeon, to see The Beatles. Since then, they have been his favourite Band. By 1966, he'd added the Stones and The Yardbirds, amongst others, to the list. Other great influences through the years are the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Beach Boys, and Country Joe and the Fish. Nicks musical knowledge is, frankly, encyclopedic, and he has a record collection to rival, perhaps even surpass, the rest of the Album Zone crew put together. In recent years with his Band, Nick has travelled all over the world, playing Gigs and sharing stages with the likes of Arthur Lee, Country Joe, Randy California, and Nirvana.
Check out his Show on The Album Zone, and you will learn things you never knew your brain had the space for in the first place. Believe me, it's an education.
